WoW Guide: Warlock Pets

Are you maximizing your pets potential?
As a Warlock venturing in Azeroth, your pet is your life-line.  Just think about it, what if you didn’t have your Voidwalker tanking for you while leveling or your succubus for decent damage and a quick crowd control.  Now all the Destruction Warlocks out there, imagine if you didn’t have your Imp with you during raids.  The difference in damage would be substantial.  Join me as I delve into the World of War…lock Pets.

 
I’m going pet by pet in order by level attained.  Each explanation will include level attained, best uses, DPS at level 80, and an explanation breaking down the previous specifications.

Imp-

Attainable at level 1
PVE- Raiding and five mans dungeons. 
500-1000 DPS depending on spec.
Imp is the main pet for a Demonology and Destruction Warlocks.  The reason the Imp is such a great option for these specs is because the talent points that apply to the imp are quick and easy fillers on your way to other talents.  As a Destruction Warlock the 100% to crit after your Imp has a critical strike is huge. 
 

Voidwalker-

Attainable at level 10
Leveling
350-700 DPS depending on spec.
Voidwalker is the most basic of all the Warlock Pets.  You simply send it in first and have it take damage.  Your Voidwalker has an ability called Sacrifice which sacrifices a small amount of its health to give you a “bubble” type shield for a specific amount depending on your level.
 

Succubus-

Attainable at level 20
Five man dungeons, PvP, and Leveling.
500-750 DPS depending on spec.
The Succubus is a great option for many situations.  But all of those situations are about seduction.  Seduce is the reason the Succubus is a viable pet.  Look to use your Succubus when crowd control is necessary, other than that use a higher DPS pet.   As an Affliction Warlock the Felhunter and Succubus are your best options as your base pet depending on the situation.
 

Felhunter-

Attainable at level 30
PvE and PvP
500-750 DPS depending on spec.
This is another one of those pets that rely on special abilities.  From interrupts to mana drains the Felhunter could be you best choice.  As an Affliction Warlock the Felhunter and Succubus are your best options as your base pet depending on the situation.
 

Infernal-

Attainable at level 50
PvE- raiding and five man dungeons.
750-1000 DPS depending on spec.
This is a great pet for short boss fights.  They’re a quick fix when you need that extra few hundred DPS.  Downside is that they take a reagent to summon, but, nowadays who doesn’t have some extra gold.  The Infernal only lasts 1 minute after being summoned. 
 

Felguard-                       

Attainable at level 50 via talent points
Leveling, PvE, and PvP.
600-800 DPS depending on spec.
This is basically the advanced version of the Voidwalker.  It’s an extremely simple pet. It does above average DPS and can take a beating like a champ.  It’s pretty good for any situation. 
 

Doomguard-

Attainable at level 60
Raiding and five man dungeons.
900-1100 DPS.
This is the best Warlock pet.  It requires five people to summon.  Good luck getting everyone in a five man dungeon to click the summoning stone though.  Anyways, this pet last 15 minutes after summoning but does outrageous damage.   Have fun watching your meters with the Doomguard out.
 

Keep in mind that when I say so many DPS depending on spec, the high ends of those are mainly Demonology specs.  They also factor in critical strikes and misses.  I hope this adventure through World of Warlock Pets has been helpful.  I know you all may have different damage meters and WWS with higher or lower pet DPS so please, join me on the forums and share your info with the rest of the Warlock community.
